LEGACY – “SOMETHING OF VALUE RECEIVED FROM THE PAST”

The Windber American Legion Post 137 has been part of the Somerset/Cambria County area for over 100 years. Because we are a Veteran’s Organization, our main purpose is no different than when we were serving our country; take care of other veterans in need, be a good citizen by caring for our community, be a role model to others in protecting our freedoms through patriotism and protect/guide our children and youth.

However, we are also a social gathering place for the community. With 15,000 square feet of space, we have held many special events such as weddings, class reunions, school, athletic banquets, community fundraisers, and many other functions.  We also provide free breakfast for all our local veterans and their families on both Memorial and Veterans Day.

Over the years, prior leadership has maintained, renovated, and upgraded our facility to provide better customer service and access. In the last seven years, we have made our facility ADA-compliant by installing an elevator and bathroom. In the past year, we have totally remodeled our main kitchen, providing us with unlimited possibilities for superior food preparation and new menu items.

We are a 501(c) 19 nonprofit Veteran’s Organization, meaning donations are tax-deductible. Monthly, we donate thousands of dollars to our community, our veterans, and other non-profit organizations in our area. We require major capital to continue to renovate our gathering rooms to take Windber Post 137 into the 21st century. To accomplish this task, our current leadership has made a two-year commitment to the “LEGACY 137 CAPITAL FUND CAMPAIGN” to raise $150,000. We feel confident that with support from you and the local business community, we will achieve our goal for the future of Windber Post 137.

We hope we can count on your support. Should you have any questions, you can reach us any time via email at team@windberamericanlegion.org or text/call 814-691-1799.

God Bless you, and God Bless the United States of America!

Sincerely,

The Leadership Group of Windber Post 137
